University building

This example is not yet fully implemented. Currently, only a three rooms sub-model is studied.

1. Architecture

API-B building is located at the Innovation Park of Illkirch (Figure 1). It belongs to the ICube laboratory (The Engineering science, computer science and imaging laboratory) whose main areas of application are biomedical engineering and the sustainable development. Icube offers to researchers several platforms that provide them with various experimental equipments such as a mobile laboratory for urban bioclimate monitoring. The ktirio platform was created in this context. It consisted in equipping the API-B building with more than 200 sensor nodes that continuously measure, among others, temperature and relative humidity since April 2019.

API-B is \(4000~m^2\) area distributed on four levels including a ground floor and an attic. It mainly consists of classrooms, offices and laboratories. The ground floor includes a parking lot. The building is west oriented and the west and south facades include large widows (see Figure 2).

As it is often the case with existing buildings, not much information about the building construction materials was available. To estimate the thermal properties of the building envelope, an infrared thermography study was curried. The results are presented in (Table 1).

2. Database

Among the 200 sensor nodes that are placed in the building, more tha 75 are dedicated to the building energy application. Each one measures temperature, relative humidity, presence and light intensity at a frequency of 1 measure/second. They are distributed as follows: 19 nodes in the ground floor, 16 nodes in the first floor and 27 nodes in the second floor. In addition to these sensors, a weather station measures the temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation and wind speed and direction outside the building. The measured data in stored in a Elasticsearch database.
